The graduate student that I decided to interview was Cory Hilliard. At Chatham, he is a graduate student as well as a lacrosse coach for the Chatham Men's lacrosse team. Cory is from Butler, Pennsylvania and attended Virginia Wesleyan University for his undergraduate studies. While at Virginia Wesleyan, Cory was a business administration major with a self designed concentration in project management and health care management. As a four year student, Cory maintained a 3.6 GPA while playing on Virginia Wesleyan's  Men's lacrosse team and being a captain his senior year. Cory also was on the student athletic council at Virginia Wesleyan and represented the entire lacrosse team by being on it. I have had the pleasure getting to know Cory as he is one of my coaches and when I interviewed I wasn't surprised by all of his accomplishments because I have watched how hard he works.
When I asked Cory about good studying habits, he really stressed that time management is the key. He explained that he is a visual learner and takes time to write his entire weeks schedule down. He has a calendar that he writes the best times in his day to study and overall plans out each day to use time to the fullest. Cory also told me that he keeps an assignment book which he writes down his entire semesters due dates for tests, quizzes, and homework. The best study advice that he gave me was to study in chunks. He emphasized how it's important to study small bits of materials weeks in advance for the test so that when the test does come around you are prepared for it in all aspects. Cory mentioned how it also helps him focus more when he gets up early in the morning to workout because working out circulates oxygen to the brain. The last piece of advice Cory gave me was to study in a place where there are no distractions that could keep you from doing your work. I thought all of these pieces of advice were really helpful and are things that could really help me in my journey through college.
The one thing that stood out to me when it came to Cory's advice for building a portfolio is using Linked in. Cory made a reference to the company that his father works at and explained how his father's firm won't higher someone unless they have a linked in profile. I thought that really spoke volumes about how important having a linked in is nowadays. When it comes to building a resume Cory emphasized that working as many jobs as you can helps. Whether it is paid, unpaid, or volunteer just working different jobs and different places looks admirable on a resume. As far as internships go, Cory spoke about how important it is to get your feet wet in different kinds of internship opportunities so you can really find out what you are most passionate about doing. Something else that he talked about was taking advantage of our liberal arts education as far as it comes to internships. Cory said that by forming good relationships with your professors, you can find internships through them which can be of much help. He said that it's important to utilize the fact that we have small class sizes because getting to know the professor and showing that you care about what you're studying speaks volumes about your drive to be successful. When it came to the last question of the interview, the three big things I took away were making a linked in, utilizing your professors, and working as much as possible to build a strong resume.

The article that I chose to compare my interview with was called "Internship spotlight: Anh Nguyen, BA Marketing and Economics'19". The article talked about how Anh interened with A+ schools which is a non profit organization which focuses on adding equity and excellence to Pittsburgh Public schools.  A similarity that I found between my interview and the article was how Anh learned how marketing activities weren't exclusive to for profit organzations or businesses that offer products or services. This can be compared to my interview because Cory told me that you need to get out there and experience multiple different internships in order to really find out the in's and out's of each field or profession. Another similarity was how both Cory and Anh did internships that had to do with the marketing side of things with Anh interning with A+ schools and Cory interning with a studio production company and focusing on the marketing side of things.
