The Event that I chose to attend was the Ascender event. There were three panelists that spoke about how to become a good CEO, there names were Avishai Geller, Lynsie Campbell, and Brian Guadio. It was awesome to have these three people as speakers because they are all real CEO's and I feel that it is important to gain knowledge from people that are experts in their field. This was an overall very good event to attend in my opinion. It was great to see some of my classmates attending also.
One of the biggest things that was talked about were the characteristics of being a good CEO. Some of these attributes include listening skills, building relationships, and the willingness to be a risk taker. In our foundations class, we have talked a lot about building relationships and how to do it effectively. One of the parallels that I have drawn from this event and our textbook is the emphasis on building relationships in the right way. The panelists talked about how important it is to attend different events so you can get out into the business world and interact with the kind of people that you could possibly work for or work with someday. One of the best ways to build relationships in the business world is through Linked in according to the panelists. I thought that was very interesting because Dr. Chung has told us the exact same thing. Another thing that was talked about was how risk taking is one of the biggest parts of being a CEO. In order to be a successful CEO you need to be a risk taker.
This lecture can be related to what I have learned from business news in many ways. However, it can be specifically to what I have learned from the show Shark Tank. I feel that you can look at shark tank in two different ways. One as TV show, and one has business news. If you watch the show closely you can see how building relationships are a huge part of being successful in the business world. Often times, the entrepreneurs that are successful are the ones that know how to get their point across to the sharks the quickest and most efficiently. The one thing I have learned from the business news in shark tank that is my biggest take away is that you have to be able to communicate well and build relationships with those you are doing business with.
